DEPARTMENT PROFILE

Introduction:The Vision of the founder president of H.K.E. Society Late Shri. Mahadevappa Rampure was to establish the first women’s college in 1965 , was to impart higher education to women to provide excellent education to enrich once personality and to empower women to Hyderabad Karnataka area.

History of the Department :The department of Political Science Established in 1965 with Smt.Indira reddy and strengthened by ideal teachers likes late Prof. C.R.  Bada andProf.C.S.Malipatil, Smt.Ratna Priyadarshini ,Dr. Sumangala Harwal, Dr. S.B. Israji,Dr.Nayanatara.C.A. and Dr. Renukadevi. S.Patil.In 1965 Hyderabad Karnataka region was very much backward. There was a time when people never used to send women out of their houses. At that time Smt. Vijayalakshmi Gurusiddayya the first Principal of this College and the staff  members of this institution infused confidence, vision and encouragement to the students about various subjects and prepared them to come up in their lives.Prof. Indira Reddy, Prof. C.R. Bada and Prof. C.S. Malipatil took much interest in popularizing the subject and created much interest in the students about the subjects of political science. Prof. C.R. Bada worked as Principal of this institution from 07.03.1994 to 2006.Vision

The aim of the department is to create political consciousness and to empower women of this region to be capable citizens of the country.Mission

  • To prepare adequately competent students who understand and apply concepts, theories, and methodologies from different sub fields of Political Science to make sense of the world around them.
  • To familiarize students with the latest developments in the discipline and enable them to acquire substantive knowledge of institutions and processes of government that shape politics within and among nations.

  • To encourage research in the socio- political issues at contribute to the discipline of Political Science.

The department of Political Science works as per the direction of Akkamahadevi Women University, Vijayapura. The subject of Political Science goes along with two sets of subject’s viz., History, Sociology, and Economics another with literature (Kannada, English, Urdu, and Hindi) and Education.

According to NEP 2020: The subject of Political science goes along with one subject Economics.

POLITICAL PROCESS IN INDIA
Objectives:
1. The course will introduce to the student the key issues and details of the political process in post independence India
2. It will also try to develop among students a perspective to understand and analyze Indian Politics
3. The aim is to help students understand the expansive meaning of political process as it shapes and electoral system party politics in the form of mass mobilizations and as politics of interests.

The course seeks to help students understand important concepts, approaches and theories of public administration. The course aims to equip students with understanding of the latest developments in the field of Public administration. The course will be useful for students who seek to understand and analyze broad transformation in the study of public administration in the course of changes in Socio economic and political life.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOME:
Political Science Major Course has a Significant trust on Indian Constitution, Indian Politics and System of Government, law and justice and duties political process in India deals Ideas of the out parliamentary democracy system getting the awareness of Election, coalition politics and roll of pressure groups. Public administration, modern Government and International Relation. It is also requires students to study of the constitution of China Switzerland UK & America. Western and Indian Political thought, Indian administration and Indian Constitution. The course familiarize the students with different approaches to the study of politics and orients them on contemporary political problems and behavior thus enabling them to formulate a general idea on political phenomena. It also helps them to comprehend the basic structure and processes of Government systems.

COURSE OUTCOME:
The course prepares students for pursuing higher education in political science. It orients students towards national and state level competitive examinations like APSC, UPSC etc. many students also pursue courses in law.
