Introduction:“Welcome to the wonderful world of economics. Everything precious in life has a cost”. Russ RobertThe Department of Economics was established in 1965 and had the distinction of teaching the students of all streams. Economics offered as a core subject in BA, BSc, B.com and BBA. Since its inception the department is actively engaged in rendering active service to the society in general and student’s community in particular. Being an excellent mental discipline the subject has got its own prestige and values both in the minds of the students, teachers and general public.Vision of the Department:“ Economic growth without investment in human development is unsustainable and unethical”- Amartya sen.Initially the department was started with an objective of imparting knowledge of Economics to girl students of the Hyderabad Karnataka region. But today the department has a broader vision of creating an educator, enlightened and empowered woman capable of facing and solving all the challenges of the modern competitive world.tear after year the department has been successfully proceeding quality conscious and bright young stars who are stepping out as a enthusiastic citizens the main goal of department is to create a spirit of social consciousness and ethical values among the present generation.

The department of Economics works as per the direction of Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura. The subject of Economics goes along with two sets of subject’s viz. Economics,,, Political Science, History, another with literature (Kannada, English, Urdu, and Hindi) and Sociology.
