• Workshop organized from Makeintern and Ecell, workshop partner Ecell IIT Khargpur
• Conducted two daysworkshop on Restriction Digestion of DNA and Gel electrophoresis by Indian Institute of Kharagpur from 1/2/2019 to 2/2/2019. The workshop was conducted by Ramchandra from IIT Kharagpur. 60 students participated in the workshop.5 students were selected for second round which was conducted at IIT Hyderabad. All the students participated in the workshop were rewarded with participation certificate.

• The department has conducted World AIDS Day on 10.12.2019 and 01.2021. The resource persons were Dr.Murgesh Pasthapur, MD, Professor, Dept. of Medicine, MRMC, Kalaburagi and Dr.Chandrakant Kelmani, Dept. of Biotechnology, GUG, Kalaburagi.
• The international day for Biodiversity is observed on May 22, 2020 to raise awareness on various issues related to threats that stare biodiversity in the Department of Microbiology conducted E-Quiz.
• Students of N. V Degree College visited our Laboratory for demonstration of instruments on 29/11/2022.

viii. Projects / Field work / internships
On 31st January 2019, Sc II & IV semester students visited the Biohazard plant at Sharansirasigi, Kalaburagi. The CEE CHAMP (i.e the biohazard) plant which disposes the biowaste of the whole city.
On 26th September 2019, B.Sc V semester students visited Agriculture Research Station (ARS), Aland check post
The students of VI semester will be visiting Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital for the demonstration of the following test-

The students of V semester visited Department of Biotechnology, Gulbarga University Kalaburagi, for demonstration of research equipments and students participated in Hands on Training
The students of Sc III and V semester visited the College of Agriculture, BheemarayanGudi, UASRaichur on 25/02/2021. The students visited Department of Microbiology, Mushroom cultivation laboratory, Plant pathology laboratory. This study was their part of syllabus.

Program Outcomes, Program Specific Outcomes and Course Outcomes

Program Outcome

Microbiology is a fascinating branch of biology with applications in several fields such as biotechnology, molecular biology, medicine, nanotechnology, bioinformatics, agriculture and industry. With the advent of recombinant DNA technology, researches on microbiology have enabled us to produce transgenic plants, animals, fungi and bacteria with new  genetic traits. Conceptually, the way one studies living organisms has changed in fundamental ways as there seems to be very little difference between microbes and higher organisms at the functional level. The behavior of basic molecules of life such as nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids seem to be the same and these molecules are interchangeable in different organisms.

As a result of the development of molecular biology and biotechnology, new fields of specialization known as bioethics, biosafety, environmental impacts, biological patents, and intellectual property rights have evolved. Public perceptions and acceptance of the applications of the knowledge of molecular biology, will be to a large extent influenced by ethics, cultural moores, and safety of the products of biotechnology. There is now a hot debate underway to restrict research funding in some areas that are fundamentally changing the methods of reproduction through nuclear transformation and cloning in animal systems with potential application in human cloning. The students of biology are well advised to be alert to these developments in order to shape their professional careers. Since understanding of microorganisms has advanced considerably during the last 15-20 years there have been many changes in higher education with microbiology being and important component of college and university curriculum in applied biology.
