Department of Commerce &Management

Commerce and Management has become the lifeline and an essential component for the well-being of a country, the level of development of a country, organization, society, including the personal growth of an individual.

The growing importance of commerce and management has propounded the necessity of human resource with business and management skills along with research oriented attitude. Hyderabad Karnataka Education Sociey’s, Smt. V G College for Women has initiated the endeavors to fulfil the gap of demand and supply of well qualified human resource and established the Department of Commerce and Management in 2009 with the course Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA). In the year 2013, started another course i.e, the Bachelor of Commerce (B Com). Both BBA and B Com courses are three year duration program of six semesters which are affiliated to Karnataka State Akkamahadevi Women University, Vijayapura. The department is devoted to impart knowledge as well as social values for overall development.

Department was started with the motive, “To be a supreme center for academic excellence and to ensure better quality education to its prospective learners”. The course makes an attempt to impart managerial skills to the graduates and nurture entrepreneurial competencies to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. The course prepares the person not only to recognize managerial problems in its right perspective but also to formulate responses to them in a systematic and integrated manner.

Department mainly focuses on enlightening the students by updating them with the knowledge of latest industrial and market developments.

From 2009 to 2019, in a span of 11 years, the department has stood First to the University thrice and with a total of 34 Ranks.

The Department of Commerce and Management organizes Certificate Courses in ComputerisedAccounting(Tally) and Spoken English. In the coming years, it has planned to add few more certificate courses like Event Management, Basics of Banking Operations, Basics of Taxation, Entrepreneurship Skill Development, Hotel Management and Hospital Management.

Events like Seminars, Workshop, Group discussions, Role Play, Field work, extension activities, case study, projects , industrial tours etc are organised to boost the self-confidence, professional skills & inculcate a high level of self-esteem amongst the students.

Program Outcomes for B COM: 


PO 1: After completing three years for Bachelors in Commerce (B.Com) program, 
students would gain a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of Commerce and Finance. 

PO 2: The course provides a platform for experimental learning and grooms students with 
focused approach on specific areas like, Industries, Banking Sectors, Insurance 
Companies, Financing companies, Transport Agencies, Marketing etc., which are crucial 
in the management of companies. 


PO 3: The course provides exposure to students in the latest trends in relevant branches of 
knowledge giving them the needed competence and creativity to face global challenges.

4. To impart knowledge about joint stock company accounts, amalgamation, absorption and 
reconstruction of company.

2. Critically evaluate the underlying assumptions of analysis tools. 
3. Understand and critically discuss the issues surrounding sampling and significance.

selection criteria from a cost-benefit point of view. 


B Com Fifth Semester 
5.1 Principles of Financial Management: 
1. To acquaint the students with fundamental aspects of finance in the business. 
2. To understand the basics of financial management, finance and investment decisions. 
3. To acquaint the students with the concepts of capital structure, cost of capital. 
4. To understand the concept of working capital and its estimation. 


5.2 Human Resource Management: 
1. The student will be able to develop integrated perspective on role of HRM in modern 
business. Student will get the ability to plan human resources and implement techniques of

2. Student will develop competency to recruit, train, and appraise the performance of employees.

5.3 Principles and Practice of Auditing: 
1. Students will be versed in the fundamental concepts of Auditing and different aspects of tax. 
2. Students can understand Income Tax system properly, and can get the knowledge of different

3. To give knowledge about preparation of Audit report, Submission of Income Tax Return, 
Advance Tax, and Tax deducted at Source, Tax Collection Authorities under the Income Tax 
Act, 1961.

1. To enable students to understand students to a new approach to the study of the Indian

2. To help the students in analyzing the present status of the Indian Economy. 
3. To rendering the process of integration of the Indian Economy with other economics of the

1. To understand Basic Cost concepts, Elements of cost and cost sheet.

1. The course aims to give students basic knowledge and skills to continue with advanced

6.5 Cost Accounting - II:
